A Fun Day of Valentines Arts and Crafts

I have seen a million and one ideas for Toddler Valentines Arts and Crafts so I thought we could have a go at our very own Valentines crafts. My Toddler is not one for being told what to do, she is very creative and will do what she wants.

I tried to keep the colours simple with mainly reds and pinks as I’m trying to teach her colours at the moment- but as you can see from the photos she may have had other ideas about the colours of her pom poms. (Her favourite colour is yellow!)

We started off with some good old gluing and sticking. We used oodles of PVA glue, tissue paper, coloured paper cut into small hearts, toilet roll tubes and mini pom poms. I cut some large heart shapes out of coloured paper for her to glue the items too, she loved the different textures and was very very particular about where each piece was stuck. I nearly caused a tantrum by sticking a pom pom slightly too far to the left. Obviously I don’t have the same artistic flare as my daughter.

Later, we moved onto pink handprints. Willow loves handprinting, I think she loves the feeling of the paint on her hands. If she can’t get enough paint on herself she’ll hold out her hand and the paint brush and instruct you to paint it. (Unfortunately I didn’t get many photos of us handprinting as I got roped into painting mine too!! Pink hands and a camera don’t go together too well).

After a lovely midday nap we returned to our painting but this time with brushes and sponges. I drew some hearts on paper  and printed some simple Valentines colouring pages for her to paint. She seemed to enjoy sticking to the simple colour scheme and by the end of the day she was able to name the red and pink paints.

I try not to over complicate our arts and crafts as I find Willow can get overwhelmed, and like most two year olds she also gets bored easily. The great thing about gluing and painting is I can leave it out on the table for her to come away from and go back to whenever she likes.

It’s not a proper painting day unless your Toddler finishes with paint on their face!

Will you be doing any Valentines crafts with your littles this year? Thank you for reading, I hope you all have a Valentines Day full of love, see you in my next post.
