On Sunday we had a wonderful family day out exploring the stunning National Trust Plymbridge Woods. We are so lucky to have places like this right on our doorstep and that they are so well looked after by the National Trust. Plymbridge Woods is an enchanting place to explore, the paths are suitable for everyone but you can easily disappear onto rougher terrain. It even has designated mountain bike trails which my Hubby regularly visits. Meandering through the woodland is the beautiful River Plym which is shallow enough in a few places to have a little paddle.
We decided to take one of the more gentle paths but did at times head off track to explore the woodland, look for bluebells and paddle in the river. Luckily we remembered our wellies, it had rained a few days before so the paths were covered in squelchy mud and splashy puddles, making for one very excited Toddler.
Theres something completely magical about walking through an ancient woodland, the way the sunlight breaks through the trees and the reflections in the river. Its a fairytale land. We came across a few patches of beautiful Bluebells and Snowdrops and Willow picked a few for us to take home.
We hadn’t realised how far we had walked when Willow got super tired and could not walk any further, poor Hubby had to carry her back to the car whist we tried to control my Mum’s over excited dog. Luckily when we reached the car park there was something to lift all our spirits, an Ice Cream Van, selling all kinds of ice cold treats, coffee and hot chocolate! Unfortunately he didn’t have a lot of change but we had just enough to treat our biggest little lady.
We’ll definitely be back in the Summer with a picnic and a barefoot paddle across the river.
