Last week Willow received her beautiful bespoke handmade Christmas dress from The Princess and the Frock. The Princess and the Frock offer handmade, ethically produced, beautiful designs for children aged 0-7 years. You can chose from a wide selection direct from their website or chose the option for a made to measure garment. Claire the wonderful woman behind the brand also offers bespoke dresses and this is the route we chose to go down with Willow’s dress.
The bespoke dress is the perfect option if you have a particular colour, idea or style in mind. After a full discussion around style, fabric, colour and design Claire can tailor make the dress of your/ your child’s dreams. I told Claire I was looking for a bright and colourful dress, as we are now entering the cooler months I also asked that it be a dress we could easily layer. We are attempting to teach Willow how to dress herself so I wanted the dress easy to put on and take off. Finally I let her know we’d be needing size 3-4 years. Claire, now full of ideas went away to look for the perfect fabric to accompany what we had decided would be a pinafore style dress.
Claire came back to me with not one, not two but seven different fabric choices, might I add seven different gorgeous fabric choices, to say it was difficult to pick a favourite would be an understatement. And I really couldn’t pick, so I let Claire know my favourite three and asked her to surprise me with one.
Once she had received the fabric she contacted me to let me know, this way I would have a rough idea of how long it would be until Willow’s dress would arrive. Claire however also had a ‘curveball’ to throw at me, she knew I’m a bit of a Christmas fanatic and had just received a new wonderful bright Christmas fabric and wanted to know if we fancied a Christmas themed dress instead…. I think I just about bit her arm off! I literally could not resist the stunning Christmas fabric, and I just knew Willow would love it too.
Within 5 days of confirming fabric choice, dress style and size I received a very exciting email to say the dress was ready to go in the post, I think I might have squealed with excitement!!
The dress arrived carefully wrapped in white tissue paper with their brand logo stickers attached, I think I got a little over excited unwrapping over on my Instagram stories so I am sorry if any ears were hurt whilst watching! I hadn’t realised that the dress would not only come fully lined, but fully lined in red polkadots!! The fabric is beautifully soft (and even my Mum commented on how brilliant she thought the quality was), the colours were brighter and the print even cuter than I could’ve possibly imagined.
Luckily, and unsurprisingly Willow was just as pleased with her new dress as I was. I had it hanging on the door ready for when she finished nursery and she could not wait to try it on.
It superbly fits all the requirements for the perfect bespoke dress and I could not be happier with the finished result. Willow has already been out and about in it aplenty and usually doesn’t want to take it off before bed. Its proving to be the ideal dress for this Autumnal weather as we can easily layer with a vest and long sleeve tee then top with a cardigan. It even looks ridiculously cute teamed with a pair of wellies and Willow has really put the dress through its paces by successfully climbing a tree whilst wearing it.
